CFS NATURAL THERAPY PROGRAM

Is Pain Inevitable in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME?

Read below a letter from Tommaso Perego Naturopath, to learn how Pain should not be inevitable in CFS/ME

What does Pain mean in CFS/ME and what should we do about it?

When you experience fatigue for no apparent reason, that lasts a long time and then you start also feeling pain, it is a big problem in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and ME.

You've just learned how to manage well your tiredness and your cognitive difficulties, then pain comes in and the situation becomes very difficult to manage.

Pain is a further stage in the progression of the illness, and if you haven't yet taken care of it, this is the time to do so.

It is a sign that things are not going in the right direction because it's always associated with increased worsening of fatigue and physical functioning.

So we need to intervene and stop it.

What do we usually do when we are hit by Pain?

The general approach in Conventional Medicine is to give you remedies to relieve the symptoms.

When you have pain, they give you something to feel less pain, but that is not resolving the cause for which you are experiencing pain, it's just making you feel less of it while you're experiencing it.

Is this the right approach?

We need to say that pain is not something that is 'given' in this condition, something that you need to live with or accept.

It's something complex to resolve, but it can be solved, and it has to be solved to avoid the worsening of the condition.

So it is the approach to pain that must be changed.

Our attitude and our understanding of pain need to change to bring resolution and its disappearance.

An example of unresolved pain

Cathy, who has been suffering from pain and fatigue for ten years, had to limit her day, quit her studies and found herself in a tremendously stressful situation because of the growing anxiety about her future due to the continuous unresolved tiredness, pain and fatigue.

After an assessment of her body, we looked into her symptoms. We checked her observations about her pains. We looked at the pattern of the pain, at the pattern of sleep, at her eating habits.

It was clear from these signs that she had issues with stagnation of fluids, poor circulation and drainage of the internal fluids.

And so the pains that she was experiencing, even though she was taking incredibly potent chemicals to try to resolve them, were due to the underlying stagnation and toxicity.

An example of correct assessment and strategy

We fixed that. And in two weeks, 80% of improvements. In seven weeks, she was completely without pain and felt extraordinary energy.

For most of the day, that helped her get back her confidence, going back to her studies, doing more journeys with the car, journeys by foot or by train, slowly restoring her normal life as she was living before.

This example is to show that once she removed the pain relief drugs, adopted some different pain relief, they are not creating toxicity in the body, and fixed the problem with their diet and with the underlying stagnation and toxicity, she got better.

Seven weeks against ten years with chronic fatigue and pain, which is 52 weeks per year. So, 520 weeks.

Natural medicine 1 - Conventional medicine 0

Of course, this is not a football match. There is no competition. I just wanted you to see that when you change the perspective even radically, you have a very good chance to understand the problem.

What you should do about Pain

And it's also clear that there is a massive gap that you need to fill in if you want to get serious help.

There is something not working in our conventional medical system. It doesn't understand Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It doesn't see where the problem is, or it doesn't give enough importance to the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome symptoms and how and what they are expressions of.

So if you are in pain, you are also experiencing fatigue, chronically. You need to take action to resolve this. You need to fill this gap.

What was the message of this letter

Pain is seen as an inevitable aspect of Chronic Syndrome/ME.

This isn't true. On the contrary, it is a progression of the illness and a worsening that has to be avoided at all costs.

The conventional assessment of pain and therapeutic strategy is not satisfactory because it addresses only the sensation of pain but doesn't resolve the cause of the pain.

So we encourage everyone in this situation to inform themselves and to do so without charge.
